11 Days the Great Tanzania Wildebeest Migration and Zanzibar
Safari Overview
The 11 Days Tanzania Great Wildebeest Migration and Zanzibar Beach is a single-destination safari with no crossing borders. Flying between destinations minimizes your travel time and is less tiring than driving. However, we’ll still use 4×4 safari vehicles for transfers between shorter distances to safari parks.
This exclusively planned and thrilling 11 Days the Great Tanzania Wildebeest Migration and Zanzibar Safari delivers a high-quality wildlife and beach experience without needing you to break the bank. You will see Africa’s big game animals like the big five and wildebeest, zebra and other ungulates and predators in the plains of Serengeti and the Ngorongoro crater.
The safari makes for a perfect honeymooners’ and couples’ escape, as well as for first-time safari goers. It is duly designed to make use of local flights rather than road transfers, giving you the necessary comfort and more time to relax and explore at your destinations.
Your African odyssey begins with an easy night at a riverside lodge just outside Arusha as it prepares you for the next episode of your adventure. It combines Tanzania’s must-see Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park, giving you the opportunity to tick off the Big 5 along with vast herds of migrating ungulates, i.e., wildebeest and zebra. Your Ngorongoro accommodation is set along the crater rim itself, allowing for breath-taking views, while your Serengeti lodge is a mobile affair that sets up in different locations in the path of the Wildebeest Migration to guarantee you front-row seats to the action.
Your next safari episode will have you swap the champaign-coloured grasslands of the Serengeti for the golden sand of Zanzibar’s north-west coast, where you will spend four nights at a tucked-away spa resort. Hideaway at Nungwi Resort & Spa is the ideal place to crown your adventure after a weeklong of safari activities. You will enjoy diving and snorkeling, as well as pampering massages and yoga classes.

11 Days Tanzania Great Wildebeest Migration and Zanzibar Beach Safari Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will meet your safari guide and be transferred to Arusha Coffee Lodge for the night. Sip on the freshest ‘cuppa’ you are likely to find here anywhere as you enjoy spectacular views of Mount Meru.
You will spend the night in a plush plantation room, surrounded by lush green bushes whose branches are studded with red coffee berries. You can explore the coffee plantation, learn more about the beverage on the Bean to Cup tour, or opt to have a spa treatment at Peaberries.
Day 2-3: Transfer to Ngorongoro Crater
After a sumptuous breakfast at Arusha Coffee Lodge, you will return to Arusha to catch a scheduled flight to the Manyara Airstrip and then transfer by road to the simple but comfortable Ngorongoro Crater Camp. This intimate tented camp is set in a shady forest close to the crater rim itself and provides easy access into the crater.
You will brace yourself for an exhilarating afternoon drive on the crater floor and a full-day excursion the next day. The steep-sided crater, which is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, is home to the densest concentration of mammalian species in Africa.
Ngorongoro Crater has built its reputation on unrivaled Big 5 game viewing throughout the year. Popular sightings here include elephants, rhinos, buffalo, lions, and leopards. After an exciting dose of awe, you will return to your classic tented suite, enjoy the private bathroom with a hot-water bucket shower, and dine on home-cooked meals served under the stars.
Day 4-6: Transfer to Serengeti
On day four, you will take a charter flight from the Manyara Airstrip to the Serengeti to allow you time to settle into your new camp before embarking on your explorations up to day six.
Kichakani Serengeti Camp is ideal for your stay in Serengeti and specializes in wildebeest migration. The camp moves easily between three different locations to ensure guests enjoy grandstand views of the action, whether it is the massed herds on the move, the spectacular birthing season, or the raw drama of the river crossings.
The Serengeti unravels its multiple casts of Africa’s big games on your game drives. You will see an abundance of plains game and, of course, predators ranging from big cats and wild dogs to hyenas and crocodiles. Morning and afternoon game drives with experienced safari guides will put you at the heart of the action.
Your tented suite features electric lighting, an en suite bathroom, and a private viewing balcony complete with easy chairs and a table so you can take breath-taking views of the unfettered Serengeti.
Day 7-10: An Indian Ocean retreat (4 nights)
After a hefty breakfast, you will take a scheduled charter flight from the Serengeti savannah into the island of Zanzibar. You may have a few stops on the way at other lodges, but before long, you’ll finally let your bags hit the floor of your air-conditioned suite and stretch your legs on a powder-soft beach.
Set on the island’s idyllic eastern coast, Zuri Zanzibar Hotel & Resort blends privacy, relaxation and adventure in equal portions, allowing guests to do as much or as little as they like.
The resort offers snorkelling and scuba diving trips, beauty treatments, pampering massages, yoga sessions and a gym. Sunset dhow (traditional sailboat) cruises and fishing trips are available to book at the resort, while the hotel’s Spice Garden is the ideal spot for a stroll.
Tours of Stone Town make for an excellent cultural and historical experience, while the short spice tour imparts insight into why Zanzibar is known as the Spice Island. You have another three days to explore Zanzibar.
Day 11: Onward flight
After a sumptuous breakfast, you will drive back to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport for your onward travel arrangements, and this marks the end of your 11 Days Tanzania Great Wildebeest Migration and Zanzibar Beach Safari.
