Know Before You Go

  • Your 3 Days Gorilla Trekking Bwindi Safari involves hiking moderately steep slopes searching for the gorillas at altitudes between 1,160m – 2,607m, which means fitness is required. There are strict rules for visiting these places and meeting the gorillas, and you’ll be escorted by a tracker, rangers, and a guide with a group of other seven trekking travelers.
  • Note that agility is required to embark and disembark whatever vessel is necessary. Wildlife viewing, quantity, and species of animals seen are dependent upon local conditions, including weather, wind, and seasonal migration patterns. The take-off time and duration of a flight (if required) and road trip may vary due to weather conditions.

3 Days Gorilla Trekking Bwindi Safari Detailed Itinerary.

At daybreak, start your 3 Days Gorilla Trekking Bwindi and Batwa Safari with a delicious early breakfast, and then meet your safari driver. He will brief you about the trip and then embark on an 8- to 9-hour road trip across the rolling hills, cultivated terraces, and tropical rainforests, and the majestic chain of the Virunga Volcanoes (Dian Fossey’s stomping ground) will be in view at the end.

You will have stops at the equator crossing and the Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara for lunch before proceeding to Bwindi. Upon arrival, you will check in at your lodge, refresh, shower, and enjoy the evening as you wait to see the gorillas the next day.

Alternatively, you will head to Entebbe International Airport to catch your 2.5-hour scheduled flight to Kisoro Airstrip. From Kisoro, you’ll meet your safari guide and drive to Nkuringo Lodge. A flight to Bwindi reduces your travel time, so you will have plenty of time to rest before meeting the gorillas the next day.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

The long-awaited day kicks off with a hearty breakfast and then a transfer to the park headquarters for registration and a safety briefing. After the briefing, you join a group of 8 trekking travelers and are then led into the forest jungle by an expert guide and armed rangers (for your safety) to search for gorillas.

Trekking these gentle giants in the misty jungles of Bwindi involves walking through shrubs, thickets, and undergrowth on slippery slopes, having to pave your way through, and dodging thorny branches. It takes between 2 and 6 hours to find a family of habituated mountain gorillas, depending on their movements, and the experience is worth every step taken.

On your way, you will observe the spectacular beauty of this dramatic, steeply forested landscape, incredibly dense but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to visitors. Once you find the gorillas, you will be allowed only an hour to spend with them.

The thrill of spending time observing these gentle yet endangered giants is so awesome and exciting that many find it to be a rare and moving opportunity. After your dream moment of seeing them play, munch, groom, and nap, you will return to the headquarters to pick up your trekking certificate and return to your lodge.

Relax at the lodge, enjoy your lunch, and in the afternoon, you will embark on a guided village walk for a cultural encounter with the primitive Batwa people or spend your time on relaxed, scenic forest walks, taking in the natural beauty of your surroundings while sighting the many beautiful birds hiding in the trees.

Wake up to the tranquil sounds of nature and enjoy a sumptuous breakfast at Nkuringo Lodge before starting another scenic road trip back to Kampala/Entebbe.

Or drive back to the Kisoro Airstrip for your flight back to Entebbe. After touching down, you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to the Boma Hotel Entebbe (just a few minutes’ drive from the airport) for a delicious lunch before you’re driven to Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight.
