3 Days Masai Mara Safari Overview - From $1000 pp. Sharing

Spend exciting 3 Days & 2 nights on this Masai Mara Safari in Kenya to see wildebeest migration episode, Big 5, and experience Masai culture by visiting one of the bomas (traditional homesteads).

This 3 Days Masai Mara Safari will give you a glimpse of the Wildebeest Migration in Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s legendary park and offers the opportunity to spot all the ‘Big 5’ animals in a short period of time. Masai Mara is known for its native populations of antelopes, gazelles and giraffes among others. The park is located in the Great Rift Valley in primarily open grasslands with wildlife being most concentrated on the reserve’s western escarpment. It’s regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife viewing areas.

Arrive in Kenya between July and October and have the opportunity to witness an episode of the great wildebeest migration. The wildebeest migration is a scene of the epic annual trek of 1.5 million wildebeest, zebra and gazelles looking for fresh pasture. The ungulates arrive in the Masai Mara from the Serengeti in July and depart in November. Serengeti is on the same vast plain as Mara. The famous Masai people live in this region and boast a very rich culture and heritage. Hardly can a visitor miss spotting all the big five.

3 Days Masai Mara Safari Detailed Itinerary

After an early morning breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel in Nairobi or the airport by your safari guide. He will brief you shortly about your trip and then start an exciting road trip to Masai Mara via the Great Rift Valley Viewpoint. From here, you will have an impressive view of the rift valley floor and then continue to the park. You will check in at your reserved lodge upon arrival and join in for lunch. At about 4:00 p.m., you will embark on a thrilling game drive in the plains of the reserve up to around 6:00 p.m. and later return to the lodge after the day’s activities.

  • Accommodation & meals:  Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp/AA Lodge Mara.
  • Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

After an early breakfast, you will transfer to the plains and spend the entire day exploring. You will search for the Big Five and embark on an amazing cultural encounter at the Masai village. You will either return to the lodge for lunch or go for a picnic lunch under a croton tree, overlooking the vast landscape of the park.

The great migration, arguably the most spectacular scene in all of nature, occurs on the Mara plains. Depending on the time of year you visit, you will have the opportunity to see columns of wildebeest and zebra as they attempt to cross the Mara River. At the same time, following on their heels are the predators of the savanna: lions, cheetahs, jackals, hyenas, and vultures, prompting a mixture of death and life reactions.

If you want to enjoy the wildebeest migration scenes, we recommend booking a longer safari itinerary like the 7 Days Kenya Wildebeest Migration Safari. It will put you at an appropriate time and location to see the ungulates since we can never tell when they are on the move.

After breakfast, enjoy the last early morning game drive and hot air balloon (if it wasn’t conducted the day before) in the Mara Reserve. After that, you will embark on your trip back to Nairobi. You will be dropped off at your hotel or the airport for your onward flight back home.
