5 Days Murchison Falls Wildlife and Primate Safari takes you on a chimpanzee tracking excursion and Big 5 viewing in Uganda’s epic national park, home to the world’s most powerful waterfall.

This exclusively planned 5 Days Murchison Falls Wildlife and Primate Safari takes you to the famed Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s magnificent legacy, which delivers breathtaking views of scenic allure and landscapes. This spectacular beauty offers opportunities for game drives and boat cruises along the Nile River delta.

The view of the Nile River being squeezed into a 7-meter gorge before tumbling 40 meters down, thunderously exploding and pouring into a placid river with a profusion of water, land, and bird life along its banks is extremely impressive to see. The majority of this wildlife conservation area consists of savannah grasslands, woodlands, swamps, and tropical rain forests stretching from Budongo Forest Reserve.

Murchison Falls National Park is home to most of Africa’s famous wildlife, including cape buffaloes, lions, hyenas, hippos, crocodiles, leopards, antelopes, the Rothschild giraffe, over 200 bird species, and many more. You will have the opportunity to spot all the big five (lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, and rhinos at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary), literally giving you the thrill of encountering wildlife!

You will drive through the breath-taking countryside with small towns and trading centers, peasant farms, cattle farms, woodlands, and grasslands, and make a stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking.

You will have lunch after viewing the endangered white rhinos, then proceed to the top of the falls in Murchison Falls National Park, and finally check in at your reserved lodge.

The ride takes about 6 hours.

Accommodation & meals:

  • Luxury: Chobe Safari Lodge/Paraa safari Lodge.
  • Midrange: Pakuba safari Lodge/Murchison River Lodge.
  • Budget: Heritage safari Lodge/Red Chili Rest Camp.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

At 6.30 am, you will wake up to a morning game drive at the Nyamsika plateau, from where you will sight the big four (elephants, lions, Cape buffaloes, and leopards), the Rothschild’s giraffes, Uganda kobs, hartebeests, waterbucks, oribis, bushbuck, Bohors, reedbucks, shy sitatungas, bush duikers, warthogs, bush pigs, spotted hyenas, and more.

Chimpanzees and olive baboons are prominent members of the six species of primates found here. You will spot some of these primates as well as crocodiles and hippos along the Nile banks and both migratory and resident birds like goliath herons, Egyptian geese, pelicans, bee-eaters, kingfishers, hornbills, cormorants, saddle-bill storks, and the elusive shoebill stork. You will return to your lodge for a late breakfast and lunch.

In the afternoon, you will embark on a boat cruise along the placid Victoria Nile, upstream, to the base of the falls. You will spot a varied range of animals such as hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants and numerous bird species. The boat stops just tens of meters from the “Devil’s Cauldron,” making it convenient for you to take pictures of the photogenic and majestic Murchison Falls. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

After a hefty breakfast, prepare for another thrilling boat cruise along the Nile Delta. It goes deeper into the Nile and yields scenic views and a variety of wildlife. You will reach the point where the Nile deposits waste before joining the Albert Nile. After this time at the delta, you will return to the lodge for lunch and prepare for an evening game drive around Paraa to spot some of those features you could have missed on the first game drive.

After a sumptuous early breakfast, you will transfer to the Budongo Forest head office by ferry for a safety briefing and then be led by an experienced ranger guide into the forest jungle to search for chimpanzees. You will spend between 1 and 4 hours before finding a troop of habituated chimpanzees.

After finding them, you will be allowed a maximum of one hour to observe them feeding, grooming, playing and jumping from tree to tree. You are advised to carry bottled water and some snacks because you can never tell how long it takes to find a troop.

Expect to be impressed by the variety of life in this forest, with the largest collection of over 100-year-old mahogany trees and other smaller primates, rare plants, shrubs, and birds. Enjoy the most thrilling experience of tracking chimps and watching different bird species, then return to the lodge and relax.

Presently, you must have completed the main activities of your 5-day Murchison Falls Wildlife and Primate Safari. After breakfast, you will check out and start the journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. Depending on your private arrangement, you can embark on a city tour or visit the UWEC Zoo, botanical gardens or Lake Victoria in Entebbe to conclude your exciting trip.

The ride takes about 7 hours.
